Odd Jobs

I cannot sufficiently thank those who have offered various services
to the organization already. I hope everyone will stick with us if we
start with some basics without adequately addressing issues that
people like Mihkel Pilv and Yannis Karaliotas have presented. I would
just like to approach worldly issues from a position of strength after
we get organized.

As you probably know, the tcc conference was a select group of those
willing and able to subscribe. We should like to widen the circle to
others active in online education, perhaps with a statement of purpose
to post on various Internet networks, particularly the professional
discussion lists to which we belong. All Steering Committee members
could be signatories to the statement inviting others to join. First
KEYONE-L members could be on the Steering Committee just by
volunteering to help. I trust that such volunteers would pay their dues
in services such as spreading the word about the organization. Those
who have already indicated their willingness can be considered
Steering Committee members already, in my view. Other KEYONE-L
members who would like to support this effort may feel shy to post
only that to KEYONE-L, so please feel free to contact me or others
by personal e-mail if you would like to participate in the statement
of purpose as a signatory.

You can find out who belongs to KEYONE-L by sending the message:
review keyone-l
to:
listproc@hawaii.edu

This might give you a handy "telephone book" of those interested.

We have had some wonderful offers of Websites, and I would like
to see the site gradually have a division of labor focusing on the
various areas concerning online education. At my Website, which
is in Japanese, English and French, there could be some bilingual
or trilingual information about the organization, but the main
Websites can be spread out elsewhere, so long as there is some
representation outside of North America, such as the generous
offer from Estonia. If someone could design a logo--after the rose
is named for sure!--and possibly a style sheet, to be shared among
our Websites, that would certainly help.

Regardless of the direction we take, the organization will probably
need posts or committees to the effect of President, Vice-President,
Membership, Treasurer, Affiliate Liaison, Conference (probably to
work with the TCC Online Conference), Publications (Electronic
Journal of Online Education, etc.?), Dissemination (or Publicity),
and so forth. My past experience indicates that the more posts and
volunteers there are, the more that tends to get done. That can mean
delegating tasks more easily done by oneself!

Your thoughts?
