Jenna's note...

I appreciate Jenna's note and hope that it can help to focus and clarify our
current deliberations. I will reserve comment on the constituional stuff
for another time... and would like to comment instead on the technical end
of things just to highlight what she has noted in that regard.

The technical side of setting up a "secure" mail ballot etc. is do-able. In
fact, if we think about it, even an "insecure" ballot might work just as
effectively, with a system by which people could verify by e-mail that they
in fact voted etc. In any case, I will look into the scripts necessary to
set up one or the other type of "voting" system-- I know there are a number
available, and they should not be much more difficult to set up than the
webbbs.

As for the new-member registration, this could likewise be done with such
scripts, and I will also look into this. At the same time, it may take me a
little longer time, only because I would be concerned that we try from the
start to put something together that is versatile and flexible (maybe that
interacts with an Access database) so that we wouldn't have to go through a
lot of trouble each time we needed to edit/use/modify the list.

Certainly, if anyone else has suggestions on these two points, I don't mean
to put an exclusive claim on setting them up... and would welcome working
with others to put things together (if not step aside for someone with more
knowledge about such things).

Thanks again Jenna.

Sorry if the webbbs etc. may be a little sloppy, and not up to speed....
Just that we are now in finals week, with faculty search committees, "gen-ed
goals" committees, student advisement/registration, graduation preparation
etc. all happening at once!
A few more weeks...!
