Colleagues,

There was some discussion recently about the pros and cons of moderated
and unmoderated or archived lists, but WAOE will have both and more
channels of communication. We just need to be very clear about the role
or function of each.

It is my pleasure to announce that the WAOE-NEWS list is ready. Dr. Mary
Ellen Nourse has agreed to moderate the list, and the University of
Idaho Majordomo listserver has the capability of both distributing
e-mail messages and automatically generating a Web page for each
message. There are already some WAOE-related messages posted, at URL:

This list is for official WAOE announcements, and it is moderated so
that people can read the archives on the Web to quickly grasp the
milestones in the development of our organization. Also, every WAOE
member should belong to this list, with very light traffic, while other
communication channels are optional, so that members can have just the
amount of WAOE mail that each person can handle.

WAOE-NEWS does not therefore supercede a discussion list like KEYONE-L,
but our virtual domain <WAOE.ORG> also has Majordomo listserver
capability to set up an unmoderated, freewheeling discussion list,
something like WAOE-VIEWS to complement WAOE-NEWS. Please remain on
KEYONE-L and stand by for announcements of WAOE's unmoderated discussion
lists.

So long as WAOE has no dues categories, people need only join WAOE-NEWS
to be charter members of WAOE, so please be sure to join WAOE-NEWS.
Simply send an e-mail message to:

<Majordomo@uidaho.edu>

with only the following, not your name, as the body of your message:

subscribe waoe-news

Again, from now on WAOE announcements and milestones can be seen at the
University of Idaho Website, starting at URL:
<http://www.uidaho.edu/list-archives/waoe-news/>. Please contact me or a
relevant officer in the future if you have some problem with WAOE-NEWS
or a progress report to announce to the whole membership.
