Abstract
In this presentation, we'll
explain how we started with an existing academic support and course
management system, added successful online students, and created a "virtual
tutor" program. A tutor can improve student learning and success,
increase interactions and build community in your online course. We'll
show you how, from a faculty and student perspective.
After having Cynthia as a
student in one of his online classes, Garret invited her to participate
in the college's "virtual tutor" program. Now, Cynthia is
available to tutor face-to-face or to field questions in her own online
discussion forums. She's also a strong advocate for online learning.
While Garret works to ensure the quality of all online courses at the
institution, Cynthia gives him feedback on what works! Through this
presentation, you'll learn how online students can get effective tutorial
support and what really improves student interactions. You'll also get
a chance to watch some video testimonials and hear how teacher and tutor
can co-exist in the online environment.
